Ganglion Cyst
Ganglion cysts are non-cancerous lumps which develop along with the tendons or joints of the wrists or hands.
Symptoms of Ganglion
The lumps are characterised based on the following symptoms:
- Location
It is more commonly found around the tendons or joints around the wrists or hands and near the ankles and feet. - Size and shape
It is oval-shaped or round. It measures around 2.5centimenters. A fluctuation in the size increase based on the joint movements. - Pain
There is usually no pain seen, but if the cyst turns out to press the area of the nerve, then it can trigger the pain. - Swelling
There is a swelling seen around the area, gradually increasing with time.
Treatment for Ganglion Cysts
These cysts are mostly painless, but the Doctor suggests waiting to understand the nature and treatment as follows:
- Mobility
Temporarily immobilises the cyst area using a brace or splint, which reduces the activity and growth to be restricted, which will cause the shrinking of the cyst. - Aspiration
Needle usage to remove the fluids from the joint area to reduce the size. - Surgery
If the earlier mentioned approaches fail to work, the Doctor recommends surgery to extract the cysts.
