Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder that causes scaly patches mostly on the knees, scalps, trunks and elbows. It is a long term disease for which there’s currently no cure. The disorder can be very painful and can also interfere with sleep. It also becomes hard to concentrate. There are several reasons that cause this disease, including genetic factors (predisposition) and environmental factors (immune response).

Risk Factors

Psoriasis is a chronic and painful disease. There are several risk factors for psoriasis, some of which are described below:

  1. Stress
    Stress is not completely related to psoriasis but it can affect the immune system. This leads to the outbreak of psoriasis.
  2. Genetics
    In some cases, a person who has psoriasis in one of the family members will develop the disease for this reason alone. It comes from the parents because they are genetic markers.
  3. Skin Trauma
    Any type of skin injury or trauma like a cut, surgical wound, tattoo, or sunburn can lead to psoriasis.

Symptoms to Watch Out for

There are different signs and symptoms of psoriasis, that range from mild to severe:

  • Small scaling spots
  • Painful and itchy skin 
  • Dry, cracked skin
  • Skin pain
  • Cracked or pitted nails
  • Joint pain

Probable Treatments

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder that is very painful. Different types of treatment are available to lower the pain and the symptoms. Common treatments of psoriasis include:

  • Correct use of moisturisers
  • Steroid creams
  • Medicated lotions
  • Vitamin D3 ointment
  • Change in diet
  • Phototherapy
  • Retinoid creams
  • Different drugs to suppress the immune system
  • Pulsed dye laser process
