Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (Uterus Removal)

Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is primarily uterus removal surgery performed for various reasons. Some of the common ones include-

  • Cancer
In case a woman has cancer in her ovary, uterus, cervix, or endometrium, uterus removal surgery is performed.
  • Uterus fibroids
Fibroids are abnormal growth in the uterus, which is non-cancerous. However, they cause heavy bleeding, stomach problems, or pain. If medications fail to control it, then a hysterectomy is performed.
  • Adenomyosis
This medical condition happens when the inner uterus lining grows into the uterus muscle. It causes heavy pain and bleeding. Generally, it goes away with menopause; however, in some conditions, instant treatment is needed when medications fail to affect.
  • DUB: Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding/Abnormal Uterine Bleeding
It affects 14.25% of reproductive-age women. Hysterectomy is required if medical Xyz fails.
  • Others
Some other reasons include endometriosis, infection, hyperplasia, general abnormal bleeding, uterine prolapse, delivery complications, placenta accreta, and gender-affirming surgery.

The Procedure

General anaesthesia is given to the patient before beginning the surgical procedure of hysterectomy. A small incision is made in the abdomen, and a tiny camera is inserted. Using the monitor, the doctor further proceeds with the procedure. Usually, women can go home the same day. In some cases, hormone treatment may also be given.
