Laparoscopic Ovarian Cyst Surgery

Located in the lower abdomen, on both sides of the uterus, the ovaries are a part of the female reproductive system. There are two ovaries present in a woman that produce eggs and hormones-progesterone and estrogen. In some cases, a fluid-filled cyst develops on an ovary. In most cases, cysts are common and generally painless, and they go away on their own, but sometimes they may increase in size/become painful.

Laparoscopic Surgery Palani

Sometimes, however, during a routine examination, a doctor may catch a cancerous cystic mass. Depending on the severity of the situation, your doctor may prescribe certain medications that can prevent new cysts from developing. In certain conditions, a surgery called Cystectomy may be required. It can be done using laparoscopic surgery without making large incisions.

  • The patient is put to sleep using anaesthesia
  • Small incisions are made in the patient’s tummy
  • Through these incisions, gas is blown into the pelvic area so that the surgeon has a clearer view of the ovaries
  • The laparoscope is then inserted through an incision
  • The surgeon will then remove the cysts

Post-surgery, most patients recover in a time period of 6 to 8 weeks. Your doctor will give you a list of do’s and don’ts, which you must follow very strictly.
