Laparoscopic Gall Bladder Surgery

Just beneath the liver, there is a pear-shaped organ known as the gallbladder. On the right side of the abdomen, the gallbladder is located. The primary function of this organ is to store bile juice which helps in breaking down fats.

When and why is Gall Bladder surgery recommended?

Sometimes Cholelithiasis, that is, the presence of gallstones in the gallbladder can cause a lot of problems. In such a situation, the doctor needs to remove the gallbladder in order to normalise the function of your body. Other situations that lead to gallbladder surgery can include-

  • Biliary dyskinesia
A situation where the gallbladder is not able to empty all the bile juice
  • Cholecystitis
When there is inflammation in the gallbladder
  • Choledocholithiasis
It occurs when the gallstones shift to the common bile duct. It causes a serious blockage and causes problems in the draining of the bile juice
  • Pancreatitis
When there is inflammation in the pancreas due to gallstones

Before finalising the surgery procedure, the doctor will conduct blood tests, physical examination, and gallbladder tests to ensure you are healthy enough for the treatment.

The Surgical Procedure

Carried out under general anaesthesia, gallbladder surgery is mostly considered to be a safe surgery. Four small incisions will be made in the abdomen that carries a small tube with a lighted camera. Then by taking the help of the monitor screen and the tube camera, other tools will be inserted into the abdomen.

By inflating the abdomen, the doctor will get a clearer view and he will then remove the gallbladder with the help of the incisions. Depending on your post-anaesthetic situation, the doctor may advise a discharge the same day or the next day.
