Stroke

A stroke occurs when the brain’s blood vessels rupture and bleed. The blood supply that reaches the brain gets blocked. Hence, the brain tissues get deprived of the blood supply and the oxygen needed to reach the brain.

Symptoms of Stroke

It is essential to understand the symptoms to avoid any risks and take immediate action during need. Listing a few signs of stroke you need to watch out for:

  • Occurrence of numbness around the face, arm and leg, which can be towards one side of the body
  • Issues related to vision – blurry eyesight, double vision and similar kinds 
  • Imbalance while walking 
  • Feeling of dizziness
  • Unable to understand or speak with clarity

Risk Factors involving a stroke

Certain risk factors turn out to invite stroke. Listing a few here:

  • An imbalanced diet 
    A high carbohydrate diet with increased consumption of food rich in transfat, food fries in refined seed oil increases the risk of  atherosclerosis and stroke.
  • Lack of Exercise
    The body needs to be kept active in exercise for at least 2 to 2 ½  hrs a week. 
  • Tobacco
    Any form of tobacco usage no doubt causes damage to the blood vessels, leading to stroke. Nicotine tends to raise blood pressure. 
  • Family History
    Genetic factors are also risk factors for stroke.

Stroke thrombolysis

Time is Brain
If the patient reaches the hospital within 4 to 5 hours of the onset of symptoms, thrombolytic medications can be used to lyse the clot and save the brain tissue from permanent brain damage.
